Event Description: SWIM: The open water swim is a 750 meter triangular course which athletes will loop twice. There will be lifeguards on long boards, kayaks and boats approximately every 100 meters. Historically water temperature has been in the mid to high 60's. Much depends upon the ambient air temperature at the time. Wet suits are recommended.
BIKE: A spectacular undulating route featuring birch shaded creeks, historical covered bridges and pastoral countryside. The course incorporates flats, gentle slopes and two short steep accents. From the transition, athletes proceed right out of Winberry park, and head West before turning right onto Big Fall Creek Road – the start of an 11 mile counterclockwise loop (Big Fall Creek Road – left onto Ruben Leigh Road – right onto Jasper-Lowell road– left onto Place Road - left to continue on Place Road ) and back to Winberry Creek Road to complete the loop. The course then heads back past the dam. At the park entrance there will be an aid station. Athletes continue past the park entrance to an out and back on picturesque Winberry Creek Road before returning to the transition zone.
RUN:A scenic out and back, mostly flat with a few rollers. As in the bike portion, athletes head right out of the Park and run a short distance along Winberry Creek road. Then they turn right to cross Fall Creek Dam with dramatic views of the lake and valley. Athletes continue along Big Fall Creek road where they come to a turnaround at the 3.1 mile mark. Aid stations are set up every 1.5 miles with water, HEED sports drink from Hammer Nutrition and ample encouragement. |
